COUN7RY (2024)
24 minutes. Fiction / Drama / Comedy
Premiered in December of 2024 in the 15th Macau International Short Film Festival (China). Selected for the 14th Philadelphia Latino Film Festival, 2025.
In an upscale Country Club of Buenos Aires, isolated teenagers yearn to break free from the private security golf carts and the family SUVs loaded with shopping bags from concerned mothers. Stripped of the weight of their privileges, the teens dance euphorically, unafraid of the mild consequences that might arise in their third world Garden of Eden. Only the omniscient security cameras know what is brewed at night, like a silent panopticon, within the minimalist architecture of this neighborhood crisscrossed by lush boulevards with no sidewalks or names, and where it’s better to remain anonymous.
Deconstruction From Venus (2021)
3 minutes. Fiction / Experimental
Premiered in November of 2021 in Straight 8 (London) and was screened at 11 other festivals: The Nervous System (New York), FECIMU (Buenos Aires), PictureHouse (UK), Expo Dubai Urban Visions, Canal 180 (Portugal), Regard Indépendant Festival (France), Parties de Campagnes (France), Harkat 16mm Film Festival (India), Serendipity Arts Festival (Goa), ULTRA Cinema (Mexico), Green Screen Environmental Film Festival (Trinidad and Tobago).
Shot on a single Super 8 cartridge with no editing, this film was written in isolation during 2020 and was mailed from Buenos Aires to London, where it was processed and synchronized with a soundtrack. The staff from Straight 8 Festival selected it as one of the 8 winners, and premiered it live globally, where everyone—including the Director—watched it for the first time.
This blend of old and new technologies, transported across time and space with no chance for deletion, correction or repetition, formed the foundation on which the film’s message was built. Not as a solid structure, but as it suggests, ‘in ephemeral waveforms.’ We are reminded that the goal of evolution has to be aligned with the principles of nature, not away from them. As the title implies, our rigid conception of the world can only be questioned and improved by thinking outside the box, or in this case, ‘outside the planet.’
Eya Pohui (2018)
12 minutes. Documentary / Fiction / Mystery
Premiered in August of 2018 at the Festival de Cine de Lima (Perú) and was screened at Bogotá Short Film Festival (Colombia), Werner Herzog Foundation (Munich), DOC Buenos Aires, (Argentina).
This film was shot during a 12-day residency in the jungles of Perú under the mentorship of the acclaimed German director Werner Herzog. 48 filmmakers across the globe were selected to participate and were sent to the Tambopata region with one task: come out with a film.
Eya Pohui oscillates between documentary and fiction, intertwining the secrets of different inhabitants across the shores of the Madre de Dios river, an area with traces of ancestral mysticism and victim of the growing globalisation. The title, in the Ese Ejja local language makes reference to the biblical passage that says "for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
